Limestone Crafts
Limestone is formed at the bottom of
natural water bodies by accumulation of shells, bones and other
calcium rich substances. It is a highly resistant stone not much
affected by repeated freezing and thawing. Limestone is an exteriors'
stone used in flooring, wall cladding etc. Limestone is a hard stone,
water-resistant and non-porous. It is difficult to chisel out this
stone. Its most common use is in flooring, paving, and wall covering.
The limestone blocks are used to make structures like fireplaces. The
fine grain limestone commonly called the Kota Stone is considered one
of the best. It comes in shades of gray and is most commonly used in
flooring.
Limestone is typically found in Southern Coastal regions of India and
river valleys. Common limestone varieties are Kota Blue, Kota Brown,
Mystique Pink / Green, French Vanilla and Black Beauty (kudappah).
